Battery drains in under 2 hours
A healthy MacBook Pro should give 8-18 hours depending on model. Under 2 hours of real use means significant cell degradation.
MacBook shuts off before reaching 0%
Powers off at 20-30% or higher. Classic sign of cells that can no longer hold charge under load.
Battery health below 80% in System Info
Apple classifies anything below 80% maximum capacity as consumed. macOS will show "Service Recommended" at this point.
Swollen or bulging battery
UrgentTrackpad feels raised or pops. Bring in immediately — a swollen battery is a fire risk and should not be charged.
"Service Recommended" or "Replace Now" in macOS
Apple flags degraded batteries directly in Battery Settings. This message confirms replacement is needed.
Won't hold charge even when plugged in
The battery has failed completely. The Mac will only run on AC power with no portability remaining.
Swollen Battery Warning
If your trackpad feels raised or your MacBook Pro has a visible bulge, bring it in immediately. Do not charge it and do not leave it unattended. A swollen lithium battery is a fire risk. We treat these as same-day priority.
