Mac Data Recovery Johannesburg
A Mac that will not start does not automatically mean the files are lost. ZA Support assesses the device, the storage and the available backups before choosing a recovery method. Tell us whether the files or restoring the machine is the first priority.
Stop before erasing or replacing the board
Do not erase, restore firmware, reinstall over the affected volume or approve a replacement logic board before discussing the files that need to be recovered. If liquid is involved, disconnect external power and stop charging or testing the machine. Do not run recovery software against the only copy of important data.
Where the device may also contain evidence, agree on preservation before repairs or malware removal. A recovery job and an investigation have different priorities.
MacBook, iMac and Mac mini recovery
The assessment records the exact model, storage configuration, failure history, previous repair attempts and encryption status. Removable storage, integrated storage and external backup drives need different handling. A MacBook-specific assessment is available through our existing MacBook data recovery service.
For an iMac or Mac mini, confirm the model and whether the files are on internal storage, an external drive or a backup. The same fault description can require a different recovery method on a different generation.
Apple silicon, T2 and FileVault
Internal storage on Apple silicon and T2 Macs is encrypted using hardware-bound keys. Removing flash chips alone does not produce readable files. Recovery may depend on restoring enough of the original hardware to access storage through its security architecture.
A valid Mac login password or an applicable FileVault recovery key may be needed. An Apple Account password is not a universal substitute. Destroyed encryption keys, damaged security hardware or an erased volume can make recovery impossible. There is no promise to defeat encryption.
Dead MacBook and liquid-damage assessment
A no-power fault can involve charging, power circuitry, corrosion or other hardware. Component-level work may restore access to the original storage without replacing the entire board. The quote separates recovery objectives from returning the machine to normal use.
A successful power repair does not prove that every file is intact. Agreed sample files and priority folders are checked after extraction, and read errors or incomplete results are documented.
Deleted files, external drives and backups
Check Time Machine, authorised cloud copies and other backups first. Continued use may overwrite deleted data. Solid-state storage behaviour, encryption and prior erasure can prevent deleted-file recovery even when the device still works.
Imaging and write-protection are selected where technically applicable. A hardware write-blocker is not a universal acquisition method for integrated Apple storage. Where a full image cannot be made, the report records the acquisition method and its limitations.
What the assessment and report cover
Bring the device, relevant power supply and any available backup media. Explain the last known working state, any spill or impact, previous attempts, and the files that matter most. Keep passwords and recovery keys out of general enquiry messages; agree a secure access method during intake.
The result covers feasibility, proposed work, costs for approval, storage requirements and the available verification checks. Turnaround and outcome depend on the device and fault. No recovery percentage, fixed price or completion time is promised before assessment.
