Mac Remote-access Scam Help
If someone persuaded you to install remote-support software, approve screen-sharing or sign in while they watched, treat the session as a security incident. The installed app may be legitimate; the concern is who used it and what they could access.
End the interaction safely
Stop following the caller's instructions. Disconnect the Mac from the network if a session is active and it is safe to do so. Do not call a number shown in a warning. Contact ZA Support, the bank or the relevant provider through an independently verified channel.
Protect accounts and payments
From a separate trusted device, change affected passwords, review account access and use the provider's session-revocation controls where available. Tell the bank promptly if banking was opened or a payment was made. Recovery of funds is not guaranteed.
Keep the session evidence
Record the call time, number displayed, app name, session identifier if available, payment references and relevant messages. Keep the original files. Do not publicly post screenshots containing personal details or access codes.
Review the Mac beyond one application
The assessment considers the authorised scope, remote-access configuration, permissions, persistence, browser changes and relevant logs. Uninstalling one remote-support tool does not by itself prove that accounts and the device are secure.
Agree the written outcome
A remediation report can record findings, changes made and remaining account actions. An evidence-focused engagement records preservation, acquisition and limitations before remediation. Attribution and court admissibility cannot be guaranteed.
