Screen damage is the most common repair we handle. Whether you've dropped your iPad on a Johannesburg driveway, or your MacBook display has developed that telltale flickering, the cost varies significantly depending on what you own, how damaged it is, and where you take it. This post walks you through realistic pricing at ZA Support, how our costs compare, and what you should expect when you book in.

Screen Repair Costs in Johannesburg: Breaking Down the Numbers

Screen repair pricing in Johannesburg isn't fixed. A cracked iPhone 15 screen costs differently from a MacBook Pro 16-inch display, and both are different again from an iPad Air repair. At ZA Support, we charge from R599 for a diagnostic assessment, that's a fixed fee that tells you exactly what you're looking at before you commit to repair.

For actual screen replacement:

  • iPhone screens: typically R1,200 to R2,800, depending on model. Newer phones cost more because the display technology is more sophisticated.
  • iPad screens: R1,800 to R4,500 for standard models; larger Pro screens can reach R5,200.
  • MacBook displays: R3,900 to R7,800. A 16-inch MacBook Pro screen is at the upper end; a MacBook Air M3 sits lower.
  • These prices include parts, labour, and a full system check. We don't charge separately for "diagnostics" once you go ahead with the repair, the R599 assessment fee is waived.

Why does pricing vary so much? Apple's screens aren't commodities. A newer iPhone display includes True Tone technology, ceramic shield, and sophisticated OLED panels. A MacBook display uses high-density pixels and integrated backlight systems. We source genuine Apple parts for all major repairs, so your cost reflects the actual component value plus skilled labour.

Load shedding in Johannesburg affects turnaround times, not pricing, but it's worth knowing. We maintain backup power systems in our Hyde Park workshop so repairs continue during stage 6 cuts. Most screen replacements are done within 24 to 48 hours.

How ZA Support's Pricing Compares to Other Johannesburg Repair Shops

The repair market in Johannesburg is fragmented. You'll find cheap alternatives, places advertising iPhone screens for R799 or promising next-day service at prices that seem unrealistic. We've seen devices come back to us after visits to those shops with damaged logic boards or misaligned displays that cost more to fix than the original repair would have.

Our pricing is honest. We don't undercut to win market share, and we don't inflate costs either. What you pay at ZA Support reflects:

  • Genuine parts only, no aftermarket panels that degrade colour accuracy or have adhesive issues.
  • Certified technicians, our team has completed Apple's official training programme.
  • Warranty coverage, every screen repair comes with a minimum 2-year warranty, some extending to 3 years depending on your device.
  • Proper diagnostics, we check for underlying damage (like liquid exposure or logic board issues) that budget shops might miss.
  • Across Johannesburg, you'll see pricing range from R600 to R1,200 for an iPhone screen at unbranded shops, versus our R1,200 to R2,800 range. The difference isn't just cost, it's longevity. A screen replaced with genuine parts lasts. An aftermarket screen may develop dead pixels within months.

Warranty and Protection: What Comes With Your Repair

Every screen repair at ZA Support includes a standard 2-year warranty on the display itself. That covers manufacturing defects, adhesive failure, and backlight issues, not accidental damage from a second drop. If your screen develops a fault within that window, we replace it at no charge.

For an additional R399, you can upgrade to our 3-year comprehensive protection plan. This covers one accidental damage incident beyond the standard warranty period. It's useful if you're accident-prone or your device is in high-use environments (workshops, building sites, kids' hands).

We've processed warranty claims on more than 8,000 devices since 2021, and our approval rate is 94%. We don't use the warranty as a profit lever, we fix what we broke, and we stand behind our work.

When Screen Repair Isn't Enough: Liquid Damage and Logic Board Issues

Sometimes a shattered screen masks a bigger problem. We've opened up devices where the impact also damaged the logic board, or where liquid seeped in during the break. A water-damaged device near the screen edges can develop issues weeks after the initial drop.

If your device has suffered liquid damage, that's a separate repair, typically R2,400 to R4,800 depending on extent. If we spot it during your screen assessment, we'll tell you upfront and quote both repairs. Many clients choose to handle the screen first, then return for liquid remediation if needed.

Occasionally, physical damage to the screen assembly affects the logic board beneath. We've seen fewer than 3% of screen repairs require secondary logic board work, but it happens. Your R599 assessment catches this before you commit.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I use a non-Apple screen to save money?

Non-genuine screens are cheaper upfront, sometimes 40% less. But in our experience, they develop issues within 6 to 18 months: colour shifts, adhesive degradation, or touch sensitivity loss. The frustration and second repair cost outweigh the initial saving. We use genuine Apple parts exclusively because they're reliable.

Q: How long does a screen replacement actually take?

For most devices, 30 to 90 minutes of hands-on work. But if we're booked, you may wait 2 to 4 hours for a slot. That's why booking online saves time. If we're running behind, we'll message you via WhatsApp.

Q: What if my screen breaks again after repair?

That's a new incident, not a warranty claim, unless the break happens within 14 days and is unrelated to external force (like a manufacturing adhesive failure). Accidental drops after repair are your responsibility. Our 2-year warranty covers defects, not second accidents.

Q: Do you repair cracked screens on older iPhones, like iPhone 11 or iPhone X?

Yes, absolutely. We've repaired screens on more than 15,000 iPhones across all recent generations. Older models are sometimes cheaper because the display technology is less advanced. Parts availability is good for anything from iPhone X onwards.

Q: Can I get a replacement device while mine is being repaired?

We don't offer loan devices at our Hyde Park workshop, but we can prioritise your repair if you're in a genuine bind. Let us know at contact, we'll do our best to fit you in urgently.

Q: What happens if load shedding cuts power mid-repair?

Our workshop has backup generators and UPS systems protecting all work-in-progress devices. Repairs continue uninterrupted. You won't be charged extra, and your timeline doesn't change.
