What You'll Actually Pay for Screen Repair in Johannesburg

Screen repair pricing in Johannesburg varies wildly, from dodgy shopping mall kiosks to official Apple Service Providers, with quality and warranty differing as much as price. At ZA Support, phone screen repairs start from R1,900, with the exact price set by your model and confirmed after we assess your device. The difference isn't just margins; it's about parts quality, warranty, and whether your device is at risk of further damage during repair.

At our Hyde Park workshop, we start with a from R599 assessment. This isn't a sales tactic. We physically inspect your device, run diagnostics to check if the LCD layer is damaged (which costs more to replace), and explain exactly what you're paying for before any work begins.

Here's what typical screen repairs cost from our experience:

iPhone screen repairs: iPhone 14/15 standard screen replacements are confirmed after assessment, depending on whether the LCD is intact. Older models (iPhone 11-13) are confirmed after assessment. If you've got an iPhone SE, it's typically lower because the screen assembly is smaller.

iPad screen repairs: iPad Air and iPad Pro screens are larger and more complex. These are confirmed after assessment. IPad mini and standard iPad models are confirmed after assessment.

Samsung and Android devices: These vary enormously by model. A Samsung Galaxy A-series screen is typically lower, whilst a Galaxy S24 flagship is higher, both confirmed after assessment.

All our repairs include a no-fix-no-fee guarantee, if we can't repair it, you pay nothing. We also offer up to a 3-year warranty on parts and labour, which protects you against premature failure.

Factors That Affect Screen Repair Pricing

Your final quote depends on several factors we assess during the initial inspection.

Device model and age: Newer iPhones use more sophisticated display technology. The iPhone 15 Pro's always-on display and dynamic island aren't just features, they're more expensive to source and calibrate. We stock genuine parts from licensed distributors, which costs more than grey-market components, but you get what you pay for.

Damage extent: A hairline crack in the outer glass (which we call the "cover glass") is cheaper to fix than shattered damage that's reached the LCD layer. Shattered glass can create microscopic fragments that damage the LCD backlight or digitiser during removal. A crack that penetrates the LCD means the entire screen assembly must be replaced, not just the glass. This is why our assessment is essential, the damage might look contained to the naked eye but extend further under magnification.

Water exposure: If your device has been wet and the screen is cracked, we run additional diagnostics to check for corrosion inside the digitiser connectors. This adds time and occasionally requires liquid damage repair before we touch the screen. Load shedding here in Gauteng can also cause power surges that damage display connectors, so we always test for this.

Turnaround time: Standard screen repairs take 2-3 hours in our Hyde Park workshop. If you need same-day turnaround or weekend service, there's no premium, we're open Saturdays. Next-day service from other suburbs (Sandton, Rosebank, Bryanston, Fourways, Midrand, Centurion) is available via our courier network for a small additional fee.

Why ZA Support's Pricing Is Different From Chains

National repair chains and shopping mall kiosks typically operate on three models: cheap parts with low margins, expensive parts with inflated labour, or both. We've chosen transparency.

We don't offer "R599 diagnostic assessments" because diagnostics aren't free, they require technician time, equipment, and expertise. What we offer instead is a fixed assessment fee (R599) that goes towards your repair if you proceed. If a customer decides not to repair, they understand they've paid for accurate information, not a pressure tactic.

Our spare parts come from two sources: genuine Apple parts for warranty-critical repairs, and certified third-party suppliers (like OEM-grade displays from reputable distributors) for budget-conscious customers. Both are tested in-house. We don't flash cheaper parts as original and we don't do the opposite, mark up third-party parts at original pricing.

Labour is transparent too. A standard screen replacement is a fixed price, not an hourly rate that mysteriously balloons if you visit a big chain. Complex repairs, like screen plus logic board repair, are quoted separately because they require different expertise.

Turnaround Times Across Johannesburg Suburbs

Most of our screen repairs complete in 2-3 hours in-workshop. If you're in Hyde Park, Rosebank, or Sandton, you can often wait. We can text you (WhatsApp: 064 529 5863) when it's ready.

For customers in Fourways, Bryanston, Midrand, or Centurion, we offer courier collection and delivery. This adds a day but avoids the drive. Courier costs are built into the repair quote and confirmed up front.

Pretoria jobs take 1 business day with courier. We don't service beyond Centurion or Pretoria, it's not practical for water damage or follow-up diagnostics.

When to Consider Repair vs. Replacement

This is honest territory. If your iPhone 7 screen is cracked and the device is running iOS 16, the battery is at 78% health, and you've had it five years, a screen repair might be false economy. A replacement device is sometimes the better call. Conversely, a brand-new iPhone 15 with a cracked screen absolutely warrants repair, you'll get 6-7 more years from that device.

We discuss this during assessment. We don't push repair on devices that should be retired, and we don't push replacement on repairable phones. This honesty costs us short-term revenue but builds customer trust.

Quality Guarantees and Warranty

Our 3-year warranty covers manufacturing defects in the replacement screen and any issues caused by our repair process. It doesn't cover accidental damage (dropping it again) or water damage after repair. We document every repair with photos, this protects you and us.

If a screen fails within warranty, we replace it at no cost. We've had fewer than 2% of screens fail within the first year, industry average is 4-5%, so we're comfortable with the guarantee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can screen repair be done the same day?

Yes. Standard screen repairs take 2-3 hours in-workshop at our Hyde Park location. If you drop your device off before 14:00 on a weekday, it's usually ready by 17:00. Saturday appointments are also available. Courier turnaround (for suburbs like Centurion or Pretoria) takes 1 business day.

Q: Is the R599 assessment refundable if I don't repair?

No, but it is credited if you proceed with repair. The assessment covers diagnostic testing, parts availability check, and a detailed quote. We don't call it "free" because it isn't, you're paying for expertise. However, if we can't diagnose the fault or source parts for a rare device, we refund the assessment fee in full.

Q: Why are your screen prices different from Apple's official pricing?

Apple's official screen replacement is typically far more expensive than ours, depending on the model. Apple prices include their global supply chain, official warranty structure, and retail overhead. We're a specialised workshop, lower overhead means lower pricing. Our 3-year warranty is also more generous than Apple's standard 1-year coverage on parts.

Q: What happens if water got into the screen?

Water inside the display affects the LCD backlight and digitiser connectors. If your device has been exposed to water, we run electrical diagnostics before replacing the screen. Moisture inside the connector can corrode components during power-up, so we sometimes need to address liquid damage first. This is always quoted separately.

Q: Will I lose my data during screen repair?

No. Screen repair never touches the storage or processor. Your data remains on your device. We do advise customers to back up beforehand, if we discover unrelated hardware issues during diagnostics, you want recent backups on hand.

Q: Do you repair cracked screens on devices you sold or devices from other shops?

Yes, both. We repair any iPhone, iPad, or Android device regardless of where it was purchased. We don't ask questions, damage happens. If your device is still under manufacturer warranty and the damage is covered (rare, but it happens with manufacturing defects), we'll help you process that claim.
