Screen Repair Cost in Johannesburg: What You'll Actually Pay in 2026

If your iPhone or iPad screen has cracked, you're probably wondering two things: how much will it cost, and how quickly can you get it fixed? We've repaired screens on more than 18,000 Apple devices a.

At ZA Support in Hyde Park, we see clients walk in every day expecting to pay R3,000 or more for a screen replacement. Many are surprised when we can help them for considerably less. But price alone doesn't tell the story. What matters is the quality of the repair, the warranty you receive, and whether you're trusting your device to someone who understands Apple hardware inside and out.

How Much Does Screen Repair Actually Cost?

Screen replacement prices vary wildly depending on your device. An iPhone 15 Pro screen costs more than an iPhone SE screen. An iPad Pro 12.9-inch is dearer than an iPad Air. But there's a pattern: Apple's official pricing through their service centres is often significantly higher than independent repair specialists can offer.

Here's what we typically see in the Johannesburg market:

iPhone screen repairs start from around R1,200 for older SE models and climb to R2,800 for current Pro models. iPad screens range from R1,500 to R3,500 depending on the model and whether it's an LCD or OLED display. MacBook repairs, particularly for newer models with integrated displays, can run R4,500 to R8,500 if the entire lid assembly needs replacement.

The catch: these are ballpark figures. Every device is different, and damage varies. A simple outer glass crack is cheaper to repair than a shattered LCD beneath. That's why we start with a proper diagnosis. Our R599 assessment fee gives us time to inspect your device thoroughly, identify what's actually broken, and quote an accurate repair cost. If you proceed with the repair, we apply that R599 credit to your invoice.

This approach matters because we've seen clients spend money fixing the wrong thing. A screen might look fine visually but have a failed digitiser underneath, invisible until someone tries to use touch functionality. We won't know until we test it properly.

What About Warranty?

Another hidden cost of cheap repairs is the lack of protection if something goes wrong. We guarantee all screen replacements with a 3-year warranty on parts and labour. If your screen develops a fault within that period, and it's not caused by impact or liquid damage, you won't pay for the fix.

That warranty is backed by our workshop in Hyde Park, not by a franchisee or a courier service. If you need us, you know exactly where to find us.

Turnaround Time: Not Always Overnight

Johannesburg load shedding affects us like it affects everyone. If you bring your device in during a stage 6 day, our repair might take longer because we're working against rolling blackouts. But within a normal week, most screen repairs complete within 24 to 48 hours. Some simple jobs, a glass-only replacement on an older iPhone, we can finish same-day if you bring it in early.

Avoid the courier trap. Sending your device to another province costs time and risk. If something goes wrong in transit, you're caught between the courier company and the repair shop, and your warranty claim becomes a nightmare. We're in Hyde Park. Bring it to us.

When Screen Repair Becomes Logic Board Repair

Sometimes a cracked screen is the least of the problem. Impact damage can fracture components on the logic board. Liquid can seep through the screen and corrode circuits. This is where an experienced technician earns their fee.

We've handled cases where a client thought they needed a simple screen replacement, only to discover the impact had damaged the display connector or the True Tone sensor. We can often repair these issues without replacing the entire screen, saving money. If you're dealing with suspected liquid damage alongside the cracked screen, our liquid damage repair service can often salvage the device and avoid a full replacement.

Independent Repair vs. Apple's Service Centres

Apple's official pricing is transparent, but it's rarely the cheapest option. Their standard iPhone XR screen replacement costs around R2,200 directly through Apple. We can often do the same repair for R1,500 to R1,700. For MacBooks and iPads, the gap is even wider.

The trade-off used to be warranty and parts quality. Today, that's a false choice. We use genuine Apple parts for screens, not clones or refurbished glass, and our warranty rivals or exceeds what Apple offers for out-of-warranty repairs.

One practical advantage: you're not locked into Apple's booking system. Book online at zasupport.com/book or WhatsApp us on 064 529 5863 for flexibility. We work around your schedule.

The Hidden Costs Nobody Mentions

Some repair shops quote a low screen price, then add "diagnostics fees", "labour surcharges", or "parts disposal charges" when you arrive. We don't. Our quoted price is the price you pay, unless you approve an additional repair during the diagnostic (like if we discover liquid damage).

If your device has suffered impact damage and needs logic board repair in addition to the screen, that's a separate conversation and a separate quote. But we tell you upfront.

Data recovery is another consideration. If your device won't power on alongside the cracked screen, you might need to recover your data before replacing the screen. We can do that, but it's a separate service with its own cost. Most clients don't need this, but it's good to know it's available.

Getting the Right Repair in Johannesburg

The Johannesburg repair market is crowded. You'll find shops in Sandton, Rosebank, Midrand, and beyond. But proximity matters less than expertise and accountability. A technician in a shopping centre booth can offer a low price because they have low overhead and low accountability. If something goes wrong, they're gone.

We've been in Hyde Park for years. Our clients know where to find us. Our reputation is built on device repairs we've completed and clients we've helped get back to work, study, or play.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is it cheaper to repair my screen or buy a new phone?

For most devices less than three years old, screen repair is significantly cheaper than replacement. An iPhone 14 screen repair at around R2,000 compared to a new iPhone 15 at R14,000+ makes the choice clear. Older devices become marginal, a five-year-old phone might cost nearly as much to repair as to replace if other components are failing too. We'll give you honest advice during your contact or assessment.

Q: How long does a typical screen replacement take?

Most iPhone and iPad screens we complete within 24 to 48 hours. MacBook screens take longer, sometimes 3 to 5 days, because the entire lid assembly often needs replacement and calibration. We'll quote a timeframe during your diagnostic.

Q: Do you use original Apple parts?

Yes. For screens, we use genuine Apple display components. We don't source refurbished or third-party glass. The quality difference is noticeable in colour accuracy, touch sensitivity, and longevity.

Q: What's covered by your warranty?

Our 3-year warranty covers manufacturing defects and workmanship faults. It doesn't cover accidental damage (drops, impacts, liquid exposure after repair). If your newly repaired screen fails due to our work, we'll fix it at no cost.

Q: Can you repair my screen if it's water-damaged?

Possibly. Water damage and a cracked screen together require careful diagnosis. The water might have corroded connectors or the logic board. We assess each case individually. Bring it in for our R599 diagnostic and we'll tell you whether it's repairable and what it'll cost.

Q: Do I need to back up my data before screen repair?

Not unless the device won't power on. Most screen repairs don't require data wipe or loss. But if your phone is showing signs of other problems alongside the crack, mention it during your diagnostic so we can advise properly.
