No Power Repair in Randburg: Cost, Turnaround, and What to Expect

When your MacBook, iPhone, or iPad stops responding to power, it's one of the most frustrating hardware failures. You press the power button. Nothing happens. No chime. No backlight. No signs of life .

We handle no-power cases almost daily at our Hyde Park workshop, and the reality is much more hopeful than most people assume. Over 18,000 devices have come through our doors with power issues in the past four years alone, and the vast majority are repairable.

What "No Power" Actually Means

Before diving into costs and timelines, it's worth understanding that "no power" covers several different failures. Your device might not be dead; it might be refusing to wake up.

A genuine no-power fault usually means there's an issue with the power delivery chain. This could be a faulty charging port, a damaged USB-C connector, a failed battery that won't hold a charge, or a more serious problem on the logic board itself. The power management IC (the tiny chip that controls power distribution) can fail. A liquid spill can short the power rails. A physical drop might have cracked solder joints on the power regulator.

The diagnostic step is critical. At our workshop, we use proper bench power supplies and logic board testing equipment to identify exactly where power is getting stuck. This isn't about plugging in a charger and waiting; it's methodical troubleshooting.

No Power Repair Costs in Johannesburg

Transparency on pricing matters. Here's what you're looking at across common devices.

For an iPhone or iPad with a dead battery, a replacement battery costs between R799 and R1,499 depending on capacity and model age. If the issue is a faulty charging port, repair runs R499 to R899. These are straightforward hardware swaps.

MacBook power issues are more variable. A logic board assessment starts at R599 (which goes toward the repair if you proceed). If the fault is confined to the charging port or power jack, expect R899 to R1,499. If the power management circuit on the board itself is damaged, a logic board micro-soldering repair costs between R2,499 and R4,499. We can often replace specific power chips rather than the entire board, which saves you money.

If the issue involves water damage affecting the power circuit, the cost depends on how far the corrosion has spread. A full cleaning and board restoration might run R1,999 to R3,499. A full logic board replacement, when a repair isn't viable, can reach R5,000 to R7,500 depending on your MacBook generation.

We've set our assessment fee at R599 because you deserve to know exactly what's wrong before committing to repair. That fee is waived if you proceed with work, or applied as a credit toward any repair over R1,500.

Our Randburg Service Area and Turnaround

Randburg clients have two options. You can drop your device at our Hyde Park workshop (about 15 minutes from central Randburg, depending on traffic on the M1). We're open Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:30, and Saturday 10:00 to 14:00.

Alternatively, if you're time-pressed, we'll arrange a courier pickup from your location. The cost is minimal—usually included as part of the service—and we'll have your device within 24 hours.

Most no-power repairs complete within 48 to 72 hours of arrival. Simple battery replacements or port repairs often finish the same day. Logic board work takes longer because micro-soldering requires precision and cooling time. If we're repairing a common fault like a SMD component (surface-mounted device) that's failed, we have spare parts in stock, so the wait is short. Rarer issues occasionally need specialist components shipped in, but that's uncommon.

Load shedding does occasionally affect our workshop, but we maintain backup power systems specifically for this reason. A device in repair won't be left unfinished because of a rolling blackout.

Diagnosing the Problem Before You Visit

If your device shows no power signs, try this first:

Force restart your device. For MacBooks, hold the power button for 10 seconds, release, wait 5 seconds, then press again. For iPhones and iPads, the restart process varies by model—check Apple Support for your specific device.

Try a different charger and cable. Genuine Apple chargers are better than third-party alternatives, but even they fail. If you have access to another known-good charger, test it.

Leave the device plugged in for 15 minutes. Deeply drained batteries sometimes need time to accept a charge before the device responds.

If none of that works, don't keep plugging and unplugging. Repeated power attempts can occasionally worsen a logic board issue. Bring it in for proper diagnosis.

The Logic Board Repair Advantage

One of the biggest misconceptions we encounter in Randburg and surrounding areas is that a power issue automatically means a new device. It doesn't.

Logic board repair—specifically micro-soldering and component-level repair—can revive devices that seem completely dead. If a power management IC has failed, we can replace it. If a capacitor is shorted, we can remove it and install a new one. These repairs typically cost less than half the price of a replacement device, and they're significantly better for the environment.

We've successfully repaired power boards on more than 12,000 devices across all Apple product lines. If the logic board itself is intact and only a power-delivery component has failed, the repair is predictable and durable. We back every logic board repair with up to a 3-year warranty, which reflects our confidence in the work.

If your device has suffered liquid damage, water-related power failures are repairable too. The corrosion is cleaned, affected components are replaced, and the board is tested thoroughly before you collect it.

What Sets Our Workshop Apart

We invest in proper diagnostic equipment. Many repair shops diagnose by guesswork. We use bench power supplies, oscilloscopes, and thermal imaging to identify faults with precision. That's why our R599 assessment is worth your time—you get a clear diagnosis before you spend money.

We stock common components. For popular MacBook models and iPhones, we hold batteries, charging ports, and power management ICs in our Hyde Park workshop. That means faster turnaround and lower costs (we're not waiting for parts to arrive).

We're transparent about warranty. Every repair carries a parts warranty, and our logic board repairs come with up to 3 years' protection. If the same fault reoccurs, we fix it free.

Getting Your Device Fixed

WhatsApp us on 064 529 5863 with photos of your device and a description of what you're seeing (no response to charging, no screen, not accepting power). We'll give you a quick first assessment and arrange a drop-off or courier pickup.

Book online at zasupport.com/book if you'd prefer to schedule a specific time. Bring your charger and any relevant cables.

Alternatively, visit us in person at our Hyde Park workshop. We're here Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:30, Saturday 10:00 to 14:00.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How long does a no-power repair take?

Most straightforward repairs—battery replacement, charging port repair—complete within 24 hours. Logic board repairs typically take 48 to 72 hours. We'll give you a specific estimate when we assess your device.

Q: Is my device repairable if it won't power on at all?

Very likely, yes. A device that won't power on usually has a failed power delivery component, not a dead logic board. We've repaired over 18,000 devices with complete power failure. Diagnosis costs R599, which goes toward the repair if you proceed.

Q: What warranty do you offer on power repairs?

Battery replacements carry a 24-month warranty against defects. Port repairs have a 12-month warranty. Logic board repairs, including power management IC replacements, come with up to a 3-year warranty.

Q: Can load shedding affect repairs in progress?

No. We maintain backup power for our workshop specifically to ensure devices in repair aren't disrupted by rolling blackouts.

Q: Should I try charging my device repeatedly if it's not responding to power?

No. If force restart, a different charger, and 15 minutes of charging don't help, stop attempting power cycles. Repeated attempts can sometimes worsen a logic board issue. Bring it in for professional diagnosis instead.

Q: Do you repair devices for customers outside Randburg?

Yes. We serve all of Johannesburg. Courier pickup is available for most areas, and we'll deliver your repaired device back to you. If you prefer to drop off directly, our Hyde Park workshop is accessible from most suburbs within 20 minutes.
