Victory Park is a quiet residential suburb in the north of Johannesburg, home to families with children at King David School Victory Park and surrounding schools. It is also, in our experience, home to a significant number of MacBook Air users. Students arriving at King David frequently use MacBook Air as their primary school and university machine. Parents working from home in Victory Park rely on the same hardware. When either category of user has a problem, ZA Support in Hyde Park is the closest specialist workshop, approximately 8 kilometres away.
MacBook Air Repairs for Victory Park Families
Battery replacement is the most common MacBook Air repair we complete for Victory Park clients. The M1 MacBook Air (2020-2022) and M2 MacBook Air (2022-2024) both have non-user-replaceable batteries that degrade with charge cycles. A student using a MacBook Air through a full school and varsity career will typically need a battery replacement around the three to four year mark. Signs include the machine shutting down unexpectedly, reduced screen brightness under battery power, and charge cycles above 800.
We have replaced over 12,000 MacBook batteries in our Hyde Park workshop. The process requires precision, as the M2 Air chassis in particular uses an adhesive-mounted battery pack beneath the keyboard assembly. We perform this repair without damaging the trackpad cable or keyboard connector.
Screen damage on the MacBook Air is more common than on the MacBook Pro because the Air's chassis is thinner and offers less protection when dropped. The Liquid Retina display on the M2 Air is particularly sensitive to corner impacts, which cause the internal display matrix to crack even when the glass is unmarked. We replace MacBook Air displays in our workshop. Pricing starts from R2,499 for the M1 Air 13-inch and from R2,999 for the M2 Air 13-inch and 15-inch.
Logic board faults on the MacBook Air present differently from MacBook Pro failures. The M1 and M2 Air runs fanless, which means thermal management is entirely passive. In Johannesburg's summer heat, machines used on soft surfaces (beds, couches) with blocked ventilation can experience thermal stress. We have seen USB-C controller failures and PMIC (power management IC) faults on M1 Air boards, typically presenting as failure to charge or failure to wake from sleep. These are repairable at the component level in our workshop.
Keyboard and trackpad issues appear frequently on MacBook Air models used by students. Keys worn through heavy use, a sticky shift key from a beverage spill, or a trackpad that has developed haptic feedback issues can all be addressed in our workshop.
A Note for King David School Families
Many families in Victory Park use a MacBook Air as the primary school machine from Grade 8 onwards. When that machine fails mid-term, the impact on schoolwork is immediate. We prioritise turnaround for students where we can, and if you explain the academic situation at the time of booking, we will aim to return the machine within 24 to 48 hours.
We also offer a collection service from Victory Park and can collect from Stratton Street and the surrounding residential area. Most collections are arranged same-morning if you contact us before 10:00.

Frequently Asked Questions
My child's MacBook Air runs out of battery within two hours. Is this a fault or normal wear?
Battery health below 80% typically produces the behaviour you describe. Check Settings > Battery > Battery Health. If it shows below 80%, replacement is advisable. We can confirm at the R599 assessment whether the battery or another component is causing the discharge rate.
How long does a MacBook Air battery replacement take?
We complete MacBook Air battery replacements within one working day of receipt. If you drop the machine at our Hyde Park workshop before 10:00, collection is typically possible the same afternoon.
Can you repair a MacBook Air M2 with a cracked screen that still displays an image?
Yes. A cracked display that still shows an image typically has intact backlight and display driver connections. Screen replacement on the M2 Air is a full panel replacement and does not require board-level work. Turnaround is one to two working days.
My son spilled water on his MacBook Air during online school. The machine was on. What should I do?
Power it off immediately using the power button. Do not attempt to restart it. Do not charge it. Contact us and arrange collection as soon as possible. The faster we receive it, the higher the chance of recovery with minimal component replacement. Liquid damage costs increase significantly after corrosion begins.
Does a battery replacement void my AppleCare+ coverage?
We are an independent Apple specialist, not an Apple Authorised Service Provider. If your machine is still under AppleCare+, battery replacement through Apple or an AASP is free if the battery health is below 80%. Contact us and we will advise you on the best route based on your coverage status.
Do you collect from the King David School area in Victory Park?
Yes. We collect from Victory Park, including the residential streets around King David School. Contact us to arrange a collection time.
