iPhone and iPad Battery Replacement Price in Johannesburg: What You'll Actually Pay

Your iPhone battery dies at 20 per cent. You charge it nightly just to get through the day. By month eighteen of ownership, you're replacing the charger twice yearly and the battery has become a genui.

Battery replacement is the single most common repair we handle at ZA Support's Hyde Park workshop. Over the past five years, we've replaced batteries in thousands of devices across Johannesburg and the surrounding Gauteng suburbs. This post covers exactly what you'll pay, how long it takes, and why the price varies depending on your device and where you go.

iPhone Battery Replacement Pricing in Johannesburg

Let's start with the straightforward bit: iPhone battery replacement at ZA Support starts from R1,200, with the exact price set by your model and confirmed after a R599 assessment. Here's the breakdown by generation:

iPhone 15 series (15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max): confirmed after assessment. These are the newest models with the highest labour costs because Apple's design makes access more difficult. A 15 Pro Max battery replacement at an authorised repairer costs significantly more than a standard 15.

iPhone 14 series and iPhone 13 series: confirmed after assessment. These models are common in our workshop. The battery itself is reasonably priced, but labour runs higher because of the chassis design and adhesive used.

iPhone 12 and earlier: from R1,200, confirmed after assessment. Older models have simpler designs and lower parts costs. If you own an iPhone XS or iPhone 11, you're looking at the lower end of this range.

iPhone SE (all generations): confirmed after assessment. These smaller devices are quick to repair and use inexpensive batteries.

All ZA Support battery replacements come with a 12-month warranty on the battery itself, and you have the option to extend to 3 years for an additional one-time fee, confirmed when you choose it. We also operate a No Fix No Fee policy: if we can't replace your battery successfully (which is rare), you pay nothing.

Our Assessment and Diagnostic Process

Before we quote a price, we perform a full battery health assessment. This costs from R599 and takes approximately 15 minutes. During the assessment, we:

  • Run Apple Diagnostics to measure actual battery capacity and cycle count
  • Check for any liquid damage or corrosion that might complicate the replacement
  • Inspect the charging port and Lightning/USB-C connector for debris or damage
  • Test the display and other components to rule out secondary issues
  • We've discovered that roughly 30 per cent of customers who come in thinking they need a battery actually have a different problem: a faulty charging port, a logic board issue, or a software glitch causing excessive battery drain. The assessment prevents you paying for an unnecessary battery replacement.

If you proceed with the replacement after the assessment, we credit the R599 fee against your final bill.

    Turnaround Time and Same-Day Service

Battery replacement is fast. In our Hyde Park workshop, we can complete most iPhone battery replacements within 2 to 4 hours. If you drop off your device at 09:00, you'll typically have it back by 13:00 the same day.

During load shedding periods (which affect Johannesburg regularly), we keep our workshop powered by backup systems, so stage 5 or stage 6 blackouts won't delay your repair. We understand that Johannesburg's energy challenges mean you need your device back on schedule.

iPad battery replacements take longer, typically 6 to 8 hours, because iPad chassis designs are more complex. We often ask iPad owners to leave their device overnight.

Why Prices Vary: ZA Support vs Chain Stores vs Apple

You'll see battery replacement advertised for R599 at some mall phone shops. This warrants caution.

Budget chain stores (R599-R899): These typically use non-genuine batteries and offer no warranty. The battery may fail within six months. We've replaced dozens of cheap batteries that were installed at these shops.

Major retail chains: prices are standardised but often use non-genuine cells. However, turnaround times often stretch to 5-7 working days because they send devices to regional service centres.

Apple Authorised Service Providers: we use genuine Apple batteries and provide extended warranty options. Our turnaround is same-day for most models.

Apple Direct: Apple's own service locations charge more and typically require an appointment 5-10 days in advance. For urgent repairs, this isn't practical.

We source genuine Apple batteries directly and keep stock for iPhone 11 through iPhone 15 models. We don't hold stock for older devices, but we can order them and complete the repair within 24 hours.

Related Repairs That Often Accompany Battery Replacement

During battery assessment, we frequently identify secondary issues:

Charging port corrosion: If your iPhone won't charge despite the battery being fine, the port may have oxidised. This is quoted after we assess the port, and confirmed before any work. Read more about liquid damage repairs.

Logic board faults: Sometimes the battery drains because the logic board is drawing excessive power. A full logic board diagnostic costs R599 and takes 1-2 hours.

Display replacement: If your device has taken a knock, the battery replacement is an opportunity to fix a cracked display at the same time. We can often complete both in one visit.

Battery Health: When Should You Replace?

Apple considers a battery degraded when it reaches 80 per cent of original capacity. You can check this yourself: go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging. If your maximum capacity is below 80 per cent and you're experiencing rapid drain, replacement is worth considering.

However, if you're at 85 per cent capacity and you're fine with overnight charging, there's no urgency. We see customers at 70 per cent capacity still using their phones daily, it's a personal tolerance question, not a technical requirement.

The average iPhone battery lasts 1,000 to 1,200 charge cycles before degradation becomes noticeable. If you charge your phone daily, that's roughly three years. If you charge every other day, expect four to five years.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will battery replacement void my warranty?

A: No. We use genuine Apple parts and our work carries a 12-month warranty on the battery. Your device's remaining AppleCare+ coverage (if you have it) remains unaffected.

Q: Can I get a faster turnaround if I pay more?

A: Our standard same-day turnaround for iPhones is already our fastest option. We don't offer rush pricing; all customers are treated equally.

Q: What if my device is older than iPhone 11?

A: We can still repair it. We'll order the battery and complete the work within 24 hours. Pricing remains the same regardless of age, as long as parts are available.

Q: Do you offer mail-in battery replacement?

A: We don't post devices. You need to visit our Hyde Park workshop in person or arrange courier collection (a small courier fee applies). Most customers prefer to drop off and collect on the same day.

Q: Is the 3-year warranty extension worth it?

A: If you plan to keep your device for three years, yes. If you're considering a new phone within 12-18 months, the standard 12-month warranty is sufficient.

Q: Will you check my charger while you're doing the battery?

A: Yes, as part of the assessment. If your charger is faulty, we'll identify it and recommend replacement. We stock genuine Apple chargers and cables, priced when you order.
