This is our complete repair hub. It covers every Mac repair we do, what each one realistically costs in Rand, and how long you will wait. If you are searching for Apple repair in Johannesburg and you want to know exactly what happens before you hand over your machine, read on.
What Kind of Apple Repairs Does ZA Support Do?
We are a component-level repair workshop. That phrase matters. Most repair shops only swap whole parts: a dead logic board gets a new logic board, a price that often runs past R15,000. We go a level deeper. Using micro-soldering, a hot-air rework station, and a stereo microscope, we repair the actual board, replacing individual chips, resistors, and capacitors that have failed.
That covers Mac logic board repair, liquid-damage repair, board failure diagnostics, and data recovery on T2 and Apple Silicon machines. We also handle the everyday repairs: batteries, screens, keyboards, trackpads, and chassis damage. If it is a Mac, we work on it. MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio, the older Intel models and the newer M1, M2, M3, and M4 machines.
My MacBook Won't Turn On At All. Is It Worth Fixing?
In our Hyde Park workshop, a dead MacBook is the most common arrival, and it is rarely as final as it looks. A machine that shows no signs of life usually has a power-rail fault on the logic board. That could be a blown fuse, a failed power management chip, or corrosion bridging two traces.
We start with a board-level diagnostic. We put the board under the microscope and measure voltages across the power rails to isolate exactly where the fault sits. Often the repair is far cheaper than a replacement board. We see this constantly with the 2016 to 2020 MacBook Pro models, where a single failed component takes the whole machine down.
Assessment starts at R599, and we operate no-fix-no-fee where applicable. You will know what is wrong and what it costs before we touch a soldering iron.
I Spilled Liquid On My MacBook. What Should I Do Right Now?
Stop. Do not turn it on to check if it still works. That is the single most damaging thing you can do. Liquid on a powered board causes electricity to flow where it should not, frying components in seconds.
Shut it down. Hold the power button until it is fully off. Do not put it in rice, that is a myth and it does nothing useful. Get it to us as fast as you can. The damage from a spill is not the water itself, it is the corrosion that begins the moment liquid meets the board and keeps spreading for days.
When a liquid-damaged Mac reaches us, we open it, document the contamination, and put the board through ultrasonic cleaning. This bath lifts corrosion out of places no cloth can reach, including under the chips. We then isolate and repair whatever the liquid has killed. Johannesburg homes deal with coffee, juice, and the odd glass of wine, and the Highveld humidity does not help either. The sooner you act, the more we save.
How Much Does a MacBook Battery Replacement Cost?
A swollen or dying battery is a safety issue, not just an inconvenience. We see batteries that have expanded enough to push the trackpad up or bow the bottom case. If yours is doing that, stop using the machine.
Battery replacement is one of our most straightforward repairs. Depending on the model, you are usually looking at a same-day or next-day turnaround once we have the correct cell in stock. The price band varies by model, but it is a fraction of a logic board repair and well below what you would pay to replace the whole machine. Bring the model identifier if you can, it is printed on the underside of the chassis and it lets us quote accurately.
My MacBook Screen Is Cracked or Showing Lines. Can You Fix It?
Yes. Screen damage falls into two categories, and they cost very differently. A physically cracked panel needs a display replacement. Vertical lines, flickering, or a dark patch with no crack often points to a display flex cable or a board-level graphics fault, which is a different repair entirely.
This is why our diagnostic matters. We have had clients quoted for a full screen by other shops when the real fault was a cable worth a fraction of the price. We test before we quote. The Retina displays on recent MacBook Pro and Air models are precise work, and we handle the calibration properly so colour and brightness match the original.
The Keyboard or Trackpad On My MacBook Is Faulty. Is That Expensive?
It depends on the model and the fault. The butterfly keyboards on the 2016 to 2019 MacBook models are notorious. A single speck of dust under a key can kill it. Sometimes a clean fixes it, sometimes the key mechanism needs replacing.
Trackpad faults can be the trackpad itself, or they can be a swollen battery underneath pressing on it, which brings us back to the battery point. We diagnose the actual cause rather than guessing. If it is a simple part, the repair is quick and affordable. We will tell you honestly if the fault is board-level and what that means for the cost.
Can You Recover My Data If The Mac Is Dead?
Often, yes, but Apple Silicon and T2 machines need careful handling. On these Macs, the storage is soldered to the logic board and encrypted by the security chip. You cannot simply pull the drive and read it elsewhere. The data is locked to that specific board.
Our approach is to repair the board enough to boot, then recover the data through the proper secure channel. We have pulled client files, photos, and years of work off machines the owners had given up on. If you have no recent backup, tell us immediately so we prioritise data over everything else. After your machine is back, set up Time Machine. A spare drive is far cheaper than a recovery.
Do You Only Serve Hyde Park, Or All Of Johannesburg?
Our workshop is in Hyde Park, but we serve clients across Gauteng within roughly 60 km of us. That covers Sandton, Rosebank, Randburg, Fourways, Bryanston, Melrose, Parktown, the wider northern suburbs, and well into the East and West Rand. Load-shedding has made power-related board faults more common across the whole province, and we see machines from every corner of Johannesburg as a result.
You do not need to be local to use us. Many clients arrange drop-off and collection, and we keep you updated through the whole repair.
Why Component-Level Repair Beats Board Replacement
Here is the heart of what we do. When a part-swap shop says your logic board is dead, they mean one tiny component on it has failed. Replacing the entire board to fix one resistor is wasteful and expensive. We find the failed component and replace just that. The result is a repair that often costs a third of a replacement, keeps your original board and its soldered storage intact, and keeps your machine out of landfill.
Load-shedding power surges, Highveld humidity, and ordinary spills are the three things that bring most Johannesburg Macs to us. All three are repairable when caught early.
Book Your Apple Repair
If your Mac is misbehaving, do not wait for it to get worse. Corrosion spreads, swollen batteries get more dangerous, and a small fault becomes a big one.
Send us a message on WhatsApp us on 064 529 5863 with your model and a description of the fault, and we will tell you what is likely wrong and what it should cost. Or book online at zasupport.com/book and bring it straight to our Hyde Park workshop.
Assessment starts at R599, we work no-fix-no-fee where applicable, and you will get a clear, honest answer before any work begins. That is how we have operated since 2009, and it is why Johannesburg keeps bringing us the Macs everyone else gave up on.
